Once upon a time, a woman emerged from the forest. Her appearance was somewhat rugged, perhaps even shabby. She knew spells and charms, and understood the effects of wild herbs. She knew the forest as well as her own pockets. She wanted to share her knowledge and skills with others. At first, people were puzzled by her, but soon they realized she was warm and open at heart. She was admired and respected. Here in Syvänmaa, you too can become part of her mysterious story. Step into nature.
Your wild nature is here!
The Legend of the Wise Woman of Syvänmaa gathers workplace wellbeing groups around the fire to conjure up a three-course campfire dinner made from pure, high-quality ingredients. Preparing the food by the fire goes hand in hand with the unfolding of the Wise Woman's tale throughout the evening. Jenni, hostess of Karkausmäki Kammari, together with nature entrepreneur Heidi, guides the group through both the recipes and the secrets of campfire cooking, as well as the building of the Wise Woman's legend.

What is it about?
Long ago, a Wise Woman lived in northern Central Finland. She did not walk ready-made paths but found her own ways.
At that time, Central Finland was still far from roads, people lived as part of the wild nature, and the woman knew the wilderness as well as the pockets of her soot-darkened apron.
But who was this woman really, where did she come from, and how did her life unfold?
We begin with the fragments of knowledge available and weave the legend together, verse by verse. Along the way, we explore ancient and multi-layered forms of writing and travel back in time to the woman’s era. Perhaps we may even encounter the Spirit of the Raven, who might carry a meaningful message that reveals missing pieces of the woman’s story. And while building the legend, a personal message may even emerge for members of the group.
Additional Information
The Legend of the Wise Woman of Syvänmaa lasts about 4–5 hours, including the shared preparation and enjoyment of the campfire meal. The legend is built at Karkausmäki Guesthouse’s premises and at the lean-to shelter in the yard. Drama pedagogue Heidi gently guides the group toward the woman’s tale in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. The legend unfolds piece by piece throughout the evening, and at the end it is read aloud to the group. The completed legend is also sent to participants by email as a keepsake.
